First post

Hmm, well this is my first post. Here i go...
Basically, I would be writing on certain things of interest to me. Well, today i read an interesting article on car engine which has given me a better idea of what terms ppl are using on the car ads.
Okay, here's the lowdown on car engines and the various terms you would find in car ads. Car engines are internal combustion engines.The article mentions about the comparison b/n car engines and potato cannon lol.Well, it says that if you put a tiny amt of high energy fuel such as gasoline in a small enclosed space you can ignite it and a tremendous amt of energy is released in the form of expanding gas.
Almost all cars currently use what is called a four-stroke combustion cycle to convert gasoline into motion. The four strokes are intake stroke, compression stroke, combustion stroke and exhaust stroke. When the engine takes in gasoline(intake), there is a piston to compress the fuel/air mixture(compression) and when the piston reaches the top there is a spark plug which ignites the gasoline and cause explosion(combustion).Lastly, as the piston moves down the exhaust leaves the cylinder through the exhuast valve.
Now, haven't you heard of the cylinders before in car ads? Inline, flat or V6.Hmm, what about 1,600cc 2,000cc? Do they ring a bell to you? Well, cc stands for cubic centimetres. And 1,600 cc means the difference b/n the maximum and the minimum vol(displacement) in the combustion chamber. If you have a 4-cylinder engine and each cylinder displaces half a liter, then the entire engine is a "2.0 liter engine" or a "2000cc engine" :p. For V6, you would have 6 cylinders and if they each hold 500c you get a marvellous 3.0 liter engine. Of course, the higher the vol the more power u get for the car.
